Phased project involved the demolition of the existing historic YMCA facility on Hillsborough Street and construction of a new building in its place. The new building is 94,000 SF, with a total of three stories including a partial basement level. The facility includes a gymnasium, and natatorium in addition to meeting rooms, administration spaces and exercise rooms. The construction consists of cast-in-place concrete retaining walls and structural steel framed floors and roof. The roof over the natatorium is framed with precast double tees bearing on cast-in-place concrete walls. The scope includes a suspended running track in the gymnasium area. Construction was performed in two phases in order for the facility to remain operational during the entire process of demolition and construction.
