Computational Sciences & Engineering Research Lab Facility - ODU, Norfolk, VA An 83,000 SF, 4-story new structure using steel frame and brick veneer walls with pile foundation. The building will primarily consist of faculty offices and "dry" research labs for computational analysis, simulation, modeling at the graduate and post-graduate level. It will also house the University's "supercomputer". It is the intent to design this project as a "green" building with the goal of achieving LEED certification. Once approved by the U.S. Green Building Council, the building will become the first LEED-certified higher education project completed in Virginia. The building has a special glass to filter UV light and keep the building cooler during warm weather, and motion-sensitive lights in classrooms. Landscaping around the building includes drought-resistant native plants to reduce water usage. The building will house three academic departments - aerospace engineering, math and computer science. It will also have an auditorium, several simulation and computer labs and the university's computing office. Construction Cost: $12,000,000 Completion Date: 2004 |
