Additions and Renovations to Great Bridge Middle School - Chesapeake, VA A 295,000 SF 3-story, 1,800-student new high school to replace the existing three-story brick building constructed in 1954 which will be demolished upon completion of the new facility. The building will consist of classrooms, laboratories, two gymnasiums, auditorium, administrative spaces, a fully equipped library media center, computer labs, an in-class multi-media system for teachers, a TV production studio, and other educational spaces. Additional outbuildings include concessions, ticket, and field house. Two floors of the academic wing contain four clusters of spaces that include classrooms, special education, project labs, business labs, smaller testing and seminar rooms, and a large teacher planning area. The science labs are centrally located in the core of the building in order to serve the clusters and provide for economy of construction. The ground floor of the academic wing contains administration, art and technology education, and the media center. The student commons and food court separate the academic wing from the 2000-seat gymnasium, health and physical education spaces, 650-seat auditorium, and music education. Site development includes demolition of the existing high school and stadium on site. Exterior facilities include 4000-seat football/soccer stadium, 8-lane running track, tennis courts, softball, baseball and practice fields. Construction Cost: $30,821,000 Completion Date: 2004 |
